If You Love the Outdoors, You’ll Love the Valleylands
The Assiniboine - Qu’Appelle Valleylands is an 11,000 square kilometre adventure and discovery region in the heart of the Manitoba and Saskatchewan prairie and aspen parklands.

Over centuries, the historic Assiniboine River, flowing north to south through the region, has carved a spectacular valley that is joined by the broad and winding valley of the Qu’Appelle River which flows into the Assiniboine from the west. The tributaries of these rivers create a rolling valley landscape unique to the prairies.
These scenic, friendly and fascinating valleylands are easy to reach with lots to do, explore and experience whether you take a just a few hours or several days.

Here you can drive, hike, bike, ski and ride in the mixed woodlands and rolling prairies a marvelous microcosm of the expansive area of the Aspen Parkland eco-region that stretches from Eastern Manitoba to the foothills of the Rockies.
The Valleylands is a surprising and unexpected world where you can explore and discover the lush, forested valleys of the Assiniboine and Qu’Appelle rivers and their many tributaries Shell River, Birdtail River, Silver Creek, Cutram Creek, Kaposvar Creek and others that crisscross the area.
Ancient Mountains
And, just nearby lie the ancient mountains, hills and uplands of the Duck Mountain Provincial Parks and Riding Mountain National Park.
Farmland, Woodlands, Lakes and Coulees
In sharp contrast to the open, level plains typical of prairie landscapes found farther south and west, here you will find a mesmerizing sweep of rolling farmland and grassy hills formed by ancient glaciers.
Verdant woodlands are home to deer and elk, and lakes and coulees are alive with wild licorice, plum and grape.

Wildlife and Birds
This is an all-season destination, abundant with wildlife and birds, like the great blue herons, western grebes and wood ducks and long-legged American avocets and other shorebirds that colonize the lakeshores and wetlands.
In spring and fall the skies and waterways of the valleylands are part of the flyway for the great annual North-American migrations of millions of waterfowl, hawks and other birds.
