The First Nations were the first inhabitants of the area and lived off the abundant wildlife and vegetation found in the area. Fur traders made the first European contacts in the area and, following contact, intermarriage created the Métis people.
This 200 kilometre full-day tour combines driving and walking to profile First Nations’ and Métis settlements and history as well as their involvement in the fur trade. The fur trade is highlighted by visits to sites of former fur trading posts and the history of overland and water transportation systems used at the time. The circle-tour itinerary starts and ends in Russell or at any point along the way.
